Welcome back to the best little writer’s blog on the planet. LOL How’s that for visions of grandeur? It was said somewhat in jest and yet, if you look at the quote of the day below, you will see there was a method to my madness.
The courage to bet on our ideas and take a calculated risk…..wow, does that describe a writer or what?
I’m big on positive thinking, and positive thinking fuels me on those long days when it’s just me and the computer and visions of being a successful writer. Writers must believe that they have what it takes, and they must visualize being successful. Let’s face it, we don’t have many people in our corner. Family, sure, and a few good friends, but for the most part the motivation and courage to write daily have to come from within.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
“Often the difference between a successful man and a failure is not one’s better abilities or ideas but the courage that one has to bet on his ideas, to take a calculated risk — and act.”
~ Maxwell Maltz
TIP OF THE DAY
Don’t worry about selling the story you wrote. Worry about writing a story that will sell itself…..in other words, although I do believe that everyone has a novel inside of them, I do not believe everyone has a great novel inside of them.
Great novels take work and re-work, and if we are writing a novel or a magazine article or whatever, our first goal should be to write an article so good that it will sell itself. If you do that then wondrous things just might happen to you.
CONTEST OF THE DAY
Dream Quest One has a contest for poetry and writing with a due date in July. Find it here.
WRITERS OF THE DAY
You get a two-for-one deal today because I’m highlighting two writers. First, a shout out to a wonderful lady who is a poet at heart. Her name is Ruby and you can find her on HubPages here. She has the ability to bring poetry to life and I’m all for anyone who brings beauty into this world.
The second friend I want to point you towards is Sha. You can find her on HubPages as bravewarrior here. She writes poetry as well as prose, and a little bit of her heart is in each of her pieces.
PROMPT OF THE DAY
This is my son….and Bev….and they are family. What does family mean to you? How important is family to you? Draw on the people of your past….draw on the lessons learned from them….you just might discover your true writer’s voice in the process.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND
As is my norm, there are no blog postings on weekends. Even I need a break from time to time, and the weather is going to be gorgeous and it is calling to me. Some time outside will fill me with the inspiration I need to carry on again next week. I wish you all a wonderful weekend and thank you so much for taking the time to visit my humble site.
Bill
Wonderful writing prompt and you already know just as you how much inspiration my family gives me for my own writing. So on this I couldn’t agree more. Hope you have a great weekend!! 🙂
Thanks Janine and I hope your weekend is not to hectic and enjoyable. As always, thank you!
Yes, taking the risk and acting is so hard for so many. I’m so glad I did. It’s never an easy road, but one that has left me spiritually centered, appreciating life and so grateful for things that I never would have experienced had I not taken my leap last year. I LOVE LIFE!!
Cyndi, I wonder how many people can scream what you just said…I LOVE LIFE!!! This has been a wonderful journey for me. My soul has been awakened through writing and I can’t imagine doing anything else.
Thanks lil’ Sis and have a great weekend.
Have a great weekend my friend. The weather here should also be most excellent. I will get in some nice long walks, clear my own head and do some writing of my own. Truly a fascinating time to be alive, especially considering the alternative. Many thanks for all the great info on your new blogs.
Larry, I love your attitude. I’m writing an article today about the very subject….it’s great to be alive my friend. Have a great weekend and thank you.
Inspiring thought — take the risk. As you say, family is what it is all about. Enjoy your weekend, Bill.
For me, Dianna, the risk would be in not trying. 🙂 Thank you my friend and I hope your weekend is enjoyable as well.
I love the little topics you have in this blog. What a great idea! You give us a little bit of advice, a good prompt, point us in the direction of great writers, and give us something to ponder. I am saving each and every one of your blogs in its special little folder (inmy AOL account), rather than with my other writing newsletters, because yours is special.
Thanks, Bill, and have a fantastic weekend! Enjoy the weather.
Kathryn, you are so good for my ego. LOL Thank you for the kind words. I’m happy that you enjoy this blog. I hope there is a little something for everyone in it.
Have a great weekend my friend.
Bill, I am so honored you highlighted me (again). You are my hero, my friend, my mentor and so much more. I’m saving your prompts and plan on writing more short stories and/or poems based on those prompts. You inspire me and keep me going.
On another note, I was just approached with another possible writing gig. This would be blogging for a friend of mine’s place of employment. I’ll know more next week and will keep you posted, my friend.
Sha, that’s great about the new writing gig…I just got one too, so fancy that. As for highlighting you….I take care of my friends. Friendship is sacred to me and always will be. 🙂
Ruby is my favorite writer/poet too. Will check out the other one!
I agree a writer has to always envelop herself with positive vibes cause that help to translate within her. Eventually her story will be a hit 😉
Have a good weekend, Bill.
Thank you Ruchira! I hope you have a wonderful weekend as well.
With great risk comes great reward, my mother ingrained this concept in me as a child to encourage me to try new things. I need to remind myself of this as a writer and push myself more. Another great thought to ponder Bill. Thanks for highlighting some great hubbers I have yet to discover. I look forward to reading their work. Enjoy a wonderful weekend outdoors.
Catherine, great to see you again and I believe what your mother preached. We can play it safe throughout life, but just imagine the thrills we are missing. 🙂
The sun is shining and life is good in my neighborhood. Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend.
What wonderful pictures of your son and Bev! Can see you’re getting more and more excited about spring and the warmer weather 🙂 We had a lovely autumn day here today…just a hint of chill, no wind, warm sunshine…it was heaven on earth. I lay outside on the grass for an hour and read my book with the cats lying next to me. Simple Sunday afternoon pleasures. Hope you had a great weekend my friend!
It has been a lovely weekend, Mel, and I’m so happy you had the same. Thanks for dropping by on your Sunday.
