Good morning my friends! I trust you are well-rested and ready to tackle your day and writing careers today.
Wednesday and Friday I will have articles coming out which talk about ways to boost your writing platform. If you are interested I invite you to stop by HubPages and check those articles out. You just might find something that can be of assistance since there are twenty tips total that are related to platform.
I’m also in the process of writing an article for the poets out there. Whether you know it or not, I highly admire poets. Being a poet and trying to make money as a poet are not easy tasks. Unlike novelists, poets do not have a huge market to write to. The demand is much smaller for poets and the opportunities are limited compared to other writers. First and foremost, poets write for the sheer love of writing. They provide works of art that entertain and make us think and reflect and remember, but they do it in a genre that is not mainstream.
Anyway, I have not forgotten you and I’ll have some suggestions for you by the middle of next week…maybe we can shake some trees and get some money to fall your way.
Now, a little more about platforms.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
“Being busy does not always mean real work. The object of all work is production or accomplishment and to either of these ends there must be forethought, system, planning, intelligence, and honest purpose, as well as perspiration. Seeming to do is not doing.”
Thomas A. Edison
I guess Edison knew something about accomplishing things, didn’t he? J
Here’s the point I want to make today: success in writing is a long-term undertaking. There are so few overnight successes in writing as to be insignificant in this discussion. For the most part, writers must have a long-range plan and then everything that they do must fit into that plan.
And it is the “everything that they do” portion that is your platform. A writer’s platform is, for lack of a better description, their resume. It is who and what they are as a writer, their credentials, their accomplishments, all rolled up in one. The better your platform, the better your chance of success in this crazy writing world.
CONTEST OF THE DAY
If you want to boost your platform then enter and win a writing contest. Here’s one to try….the Lee Smith Novel Prize is taking submissions of unpublished novels from now until October 15th. Entry fee of $20 and you can find all the details here.
WORKSHOP OF THE DAY
Once again, workshops are a great addition to your platform. Here’s one you might consider…..Write On The Sound is held in October in beautiful Edmunds, Washington. You not only will receive valuable information and instruction, but you will also be 50 miles from where I live and I’ll come visit you during your stay. How can you pass that up? Check it out here.
PROMPT OF THE DAY
So? Anything? Are you feeling inspired?
MORE TOMORROW
What is tomorrow, Wednesday? Oh yes, there will definitely be more tomorrow.
Hey, I have a new blog in the works….it will be called A Moment With Bill….all part of the platform.
Is there anything I can do for you? I’m still waiting for some of you to do a guest blog on this site. Anything having to do with writing is welcome….just let me know.
Have a great day unless you made other plans.
Bill
“Helping writers to spread their wings and fly.”
You know I will be there and cannot wait to read your upcoming articles. When you give writing tips I listen up!! Enjoy the rest of your day and hope you are too behind still!! 🙂
Thanks Janine. I need a tip for myself on how to find more hours in a day. 🙂
Loved the quote of Edison. Being productive is not always about doing work…roger that!
Once again you inspire me to bring out my best.
Happy Tuesday, Bill
Ruchira, I loved that quote too…very wise words. 🙂 Thank you and have a great day my friend. Sunny and warm here.
After reading that caption on the prompt of the day I can’t help but think I’m a bad influence on you.
Lizzy, I need more people like you in my life and not less. 🙂 My humor is wasted on those around me.
I’ve expressed interest in doing a guest post before. How do I get in touch with you?
Mommy, just send me an email to holland1145@yahoo.com
A new blog? Excellent! Oh, I cannot wait. I think you’re essays are brilliant. It’s like meeting up with an old friend and sharing thoughts over a cup of coffee. I swear sometimes I can even hear your voice in my head while I’m reading.
(I realise I’ve just left myself open for a cheap shot, so go ahead and get it out of your system. You wouldn’t be the first. lol)
LOL…Phoenix, I would never stoop to a cheap shot….well, okay, I would, actually, but it’s too early for me to think of a great one. 🙂 Thank you my friend. I should have that new blog ready to go by Monday.
I for one am looking forward to your new blog, Bill! You are an inspiration and proof that you really can do what you want and enjoy life no matter how old you are. Thanks for the inspiration as always today.
Mel, I’ve got a few years left in me and I plan on enjoying the heck out of those years. Thank you!
