Bring the Creative Back Into Your Writing Creativity

24 Jul

003Welcome back!  You may have noticed that I am alternating my two blogs now.  I’m doing that to give my faithful followers a break quite frankly.  Asking you to read two blogs per day is a bit silly, don’t you think?  So one day it will be Artistry With Words and the next day we’ll do A Moment With Bill. Hopefully that way you won’t be disgusted when you see my blog pop up online. J

Topic of the day is creativity. Read the quote and then we’ll chat.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things.
Steve Jobs
Yep, you have to be creative in this business.  Everyone is doing the same old things in case you haven’t noticed.  Facebook is overflowing with promotions, as is Twitter.  How about coming up with new ways of promoting your writing?

What do you do that’s a bit different?  If you have any new suggestions feel free to mention them in your comment. I’d love to hear something new for a change.

TIP OF THE DAY

Schedule a reading at your local library.  Walk in, tell them that you are a writer, and see if they will let you read some of your works on a given day.  Who knows, right? What have you got to lose?  Sooner or later you are going to have to step out into the world and face the audience….why not today?

CONTEST OF THE DAY

For you poets there is the Button Poetry Contest….and you can check them out here.

WRITER OF THE DAY

Say hello to Marissa, a young lady with a passion for life and an infectious smile. You can find her brand new blog right here…it is called Tiny Pilgrim and I love the title. J

SITE OF THE DAY

Have you ever done a vlog to promote your latest work? Do you even know what a vlog is? Well you can find out by reading this helpful article.  Give it a try….vlogging is a nice way to attach your face to your writing and allow others to get to know you in a natural setting.  Remember, we are trying to find creative alternatives to promote your work, right?

PROMPT OF THE DAY

040

Look at the picture and then close your eyes and let your mind roam….and then write down a paragraph based on those thoughts….who knows…there might be a best-selling book in those thoughts.

WEIGHT LOSS TIP OF THE DAY

Huh?  Is Bill losing it? What’s with the weight loss nonsense?

Just my over-active mind at work.  I was thinking that if you edited all the fluff from your next piece you would have a slimmed down work of art.  Get it? Weight loss?

Seriously….something I remember a teacher of mine telling me a long time ago: if a section has no value to the story then erase it.  Good stories do not need distractions, so eliminate them and allow the writing to flow in the intended direction.

MORE ON FRIDAY

Every other day with this blog….so tomorrow I’ll be doing another Moment With Bill blog, and I’ll see you back here for more writing tips on Friday.  Have a great day writing.

Janine, you are a writer who has proven that you are willing to try new approaches, and I respect that. 🙂 Thank you and have a great Wednesday.

Lizzy, you don’t like the way I spell Friday? How about Lizzy without a “y”….Lizz….I like it. 🙂 Thanks lil’ one!

Hmm…I’ve been thinking about starting a vlog, but never got the chance to fully experiment with it! I have the camera and everything, but between work and school (along with writing) my schedule is pretty tight! I think I might start up my vlogging again soon. Thanks for the links, Bill!

    • Billybuc July 24, 2013 at 4:46 pm #

Hey Keith, thanks for stopping by. Although I’m not real big on technology, I do see the value in a vlog…it gives readers a chance to meet the author and establish a bond of sorts. I certainly understand about lack of time, and I hope you are able to do this soon.

Thank you so much for featuring me as “Writer of the Day”. You’re such a great mentor and supporter.

    Thanks,

Oh thank you so much for posting a poetry contest Bill–I am on my way over to look at it–I need to sit down and do some editing before my day is done–not creative, but needed–arg!

    • Billybuc July 25, 2013 at 12:34 am #

You are welcome, Audrey. I’ll try to post more just for you in the future.

Bill I didn’t realize you were doing both blogs! I’m so glad you said that today…I assumed you’d just changed for some reason…I must have missed that one:)

I love the Vlogs too…it really does give you a chance to hear a person and how they speak – interesting!! I’m a chicken though…I’ve got a deep voice and hate it!

    • Billybuc July 25, 2013 at 2:01 pm #

Kelly, I’m quite certain there is nothing wrong with your voice, and since we all love you we don’t care anyway. 🙂 Thanks buddy and I’m glad you are back.

  9. grandma pearl July 25, 2013 at 4:05 pm #

Billy, this was a fun and freeing writing exercise. It gives me an idea about grabbing the camera and snapping pictures just for this inspirational purpose!
    Thank you 😉 Pearl

    • Billybuc July 25, 2013 at 4:07 pm #

I love it, Pearl! That’s why I write these blogs…we all need ideas and inspiration. Glad it was helpful to you my friend and thanks for the visit.

  10. Melanie Chisnall July 26, 2013 at 7:05 am #

I’m with you Bill on the alternating blogs. That’s exactly why I only post one health/career blog post each day and not both on the same day. Love the idea of reading in the library, what a cool idea. Not for super shy people like me, but to the rest of the writers out there, lol! Have a fantastic weekend my friend. 🙂

    • Billybuc July 26, 2013 at 2:10 pm #

Thank you Mel, and congratulations on getting that job….have a great weekend. Do something nice for yourself.
