Increasing our Writing Productivity

30 Jul

003And a very Happy Tuesday to you all.  I hope you had a PRODUCTIVE Monday and you are ready to take on all challenges today.

And yes, today we are going to talk about productivity.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning, and focused effort.
Paul J. Meyer
Let me ask you this:  What if this were one of the old Communists countries, and there were only a limited number of writers allowed each year, and that those allowed to write were determined by their productivity…..would you increase your productivity in order to keep doing what you love?

Of course you would, and that is the point of this lesson.  You will never improve if you don’t keep writing…you will never achieve your writing goals if you don’t keep writing.  Writing is a craft and like all crafts it improves with effort and practice.

I don’t know how much time you spend writing each day. I know a lot of you have full time jobs and writing time is limited….and I understand….but….

Productivity does not happen by accident.  Read the quote again and then ask yourself if you are writing as much as you could be or should be.

TIP OF THE DAY

Set aside a specific amount of time each day to write.  Even if it is just fifteen minutes before bedtime, do it….or get up a half hour earlier in the morning…but do it!

CONTEST OF THE DAY

The Robert Watson Literary Prizes are now accepting submissions in fiction and poetry with a deadline of September 15th.  You can find the submission guidelines here.

FREE MONEY OF THE DAY

How about a weekend in Big Sur, California in October?  The Sun is offering two scholarships for room, board and tuition, and the applications can be found here.

PROMPT OF THE DAY

Do you see anything worth getting excited about? I saw a sunset the other night that knocked my socks off and inspired a future article. I hope this picture does the same for you.

THOUGHT OF THE DAY

We all have different goals, right? I don’t know what yours are….I want to inspire millions with my writing….pretty broad goal, and my challenge is always in how do I do it….how do I achieve that goal…what are the most productive avenues for me to take….

Universal questions for most writers I believe.

Best of luck to you all, and thank you for stopping by. I’ll be back on this blog Thursday, as tomorrow is my day for A Moment With Bill blog.
