Happy Monday to you all. Are you rested up and ready to hit the ground running? Let’s do it!
I woke up Saturday morning thinking about future articles. I’m a writer, and although there are times I would love to turn off my brain, most of the time I am quite happy that it is always coming up with new ideas for articles and novels. This is what I do. I plan on being successful at it, and I plan on doing anything I have to do to succeed. I don’t have the luxury of forty more years of writing. I hear the clock ticking and I’m responding to the tick.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
John Lubbock
THOUGHT OF THE DAY
About two months ago I decided that I needed to take weekends off. Believe me when I say it was extremely hard, for the reasons I mentioned above. However, it is the best decision I have made in a very long time. When I come back on Mondays I am rested and eager, and I can carry that eagerness through to Friday, knowing I’ll have two days off to again rest.
Make sure you take time for you during the week. Your writing will be better because you did.
TIP OF THE DAY
If you schedule your day of writing, and I would hope that you do, then also schedule in some down time during the day. I make sure I get up once each hour and walk the garden, or do some stretching or yoga. I believe this is vitally important for writers to do.
NEW FEATURE OF THE DAY
If you are following this on my website, www.williamdhollandauthor.com, and I hope you are, then you’ll notice in a day or so a new page…..Book Recommendations….or something similar. There I will keep adding books that I have read that I think are exceptional. There will be a list for casual readers and a list for writers who want some resource material to help them with writing. If you have recommendations for the list please pass them on to me.
ARTICLE OF THE DAY
I’m starting a new series of articles on HubPages called The Writer’s Mailbag. There I will answer the questions that people ask me during the week. You might find it helpful, and if you have questions again, forward them to me and I’ll answer them when I can.
CONTEST OF THE DAY
The first annual Book Pipeline Contest is underway with a deadline of September 15th. This is a chance to get your manuscript noticed by movie people, so check it out here.
THAT’S ALL, FOLKS!
Yes, I will mention my new novel, Resurrecting Tobias, and if you would like to purchase it you can do so on my website www.williamdhollandauthor.com. It is available on Kindle and as a paperback through Amazon. If you should purchase it I would ask you to leave a review when you have time.
Thanks a lot my friend, and have a great week of writing.
Bill
“Helping writers to spread their wings and fly.”
You know I totally agree with you on taking time off and I am now trying my hand at having weekends off and setting a better weekly schedule, too, especially now having the girls home for summer vacation. So, I do agree this is so essentials a great tip. Hope you are having a productive Monday after taking off this past weekend now!! 🙂
I know you are doing this, Janine, and I applaud you for it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience.
I started taking weekends off from social media and email quite a while ago and it has been amazing! Thanks for the reminder of why I do it. Cheers!
Cheers, Heidi, and thank you for sharing that….and it is amazing for sure.
I, too, am plagued with a constant barrage of ideas in my head, and have had to set limits on when I allow myself to think about them. Taking the weekend off of writing helps. And thanks for letting me know….sitting and enjoying nature is not a waste of time. I love it!
Oh, Denise, never a waste of time…..in fact, I need to do more of it. 🙂 Thanks for dropping by my friend.
Deadlines! Deadlines! Gotta go ;D
Get moving on it, Lizzy, and no excuses.
Bill, I look forward to your new HP series. I just left a bunch of questions in the comment section on today’s post. Great idea!
I take breaks throughout the day also and they’re always taken outside. On the weekends I do yard work and read on my back patio. I do so much writing-related reading and research thru the week that I take a break and read for pleasure on the weekends. I’m almost finished with the current novel I’m reading. Next in line is Resurrecting Tobias.
Busy, busy, busy, Sha. I hope you enjoy the book..thank you so much for the support and friendship.
Summers are my down time. Most of the school year is busy with teaching and writing in between lessons–It is a terrible way to support a writing habit!
Audrey, there is a reason why I started writing after I retired from teaching, and you just named that reason. Thank you my friend.
I can imagine it took great self control to not write on weekends. You have an iron will, my friend. On the other hand – i agree – one needs to recharge – especially at ‘our’ age..haha..
Hope your book is selling off the shelves, my friendxx
LOL…Karen, I’m making up for lost time in the self-control category. Not so much when I was younger. 🙂 Thanks for dropping by, Sis.
Change is always good, Bill
Monday’s are usually the best for me after a restful sunday…
I like how you are helping people with their writing questions…Applaud your deeds!
Thank you Ruchira. I love helping people…it makes me happy.
Great advice. Taking a couple days off from writing.
Thanks Ruby. We all need to take a break, or that which we love will become a chore. 🙂
Hello Bill.
How conveniently comes word ” resurrecting”- the ancient ‘ order’ to take one day off of your labor and gain essential rest for total man, spirit soul and body. You are actually helping to discipline your readers ( us ) if choosing so.
Looking forward to your new series answering questions others will ask what I need to know.
Have a successful and prosperous week, my friend.
Michael my friend, it is always a pleasure having you stop by. Rest for sure, Michael, as we all need to replenish and enjoy the fruits of our labor. Thank you always.
There is a little something for everyone in this post. I am looking forward to your new hubpage question/answer series. I hope you are enjoying a wonderful day. By the way, I happened across an Animal Planet documentary on Big Foot and they say it is most seen in Washington and Oregon. Interesting! Take care.
Dianna, I’m not sure if I’m concerned about Bigfoot or the people who claim to have seen it. LOL Thanks for the visit…the new series will start tomorrow.
“Sometimes I sits and think, and sometimes I just sits.” I don’t remember who said this but I’ve always liked it. Arlo Guthrie said something similar.
Thank you Jo. It certainly sounds like Arlo Guthrie.
