Avoid Temptations and Distractions

3 Sep

003Well, this was supposed to come out Tuesday, but as you can obviously see, this is Wednesday, so that should give you a clue how the fourth attempt at a new schedule is working out for me.

Oh well!

We do what we can and we deal with it.

Let’s talk today about temptations.  Sounds a bit Biblical, doesn’t it?

QUOTE OF THE DAY

Too many Christians have a commitment of convenience. They’ll stay faithful as long as it’s safe and doesn’t involve risk, rejection, or criticism. Instead of standing alone in the face of challenge or temptation, they check to see which way their friends are going.

Charles Stanley
Again with the religious overtones.  I promise this is not a religious blog.

THOUGHT OF THE DAY

At least once a week someone suggests that I should write an ebook about writing.  They mean well and I understand why they suggest it…and I’m appreciative….but right now, it’s not in my plan.

Someone suggested I do a webinar about writing, and it was a wonderful suggestion…but right now, it’s not in my plan.

When I started writing full-time three years ago, I sat down and made out a five-year plan.  It is quite detailed.  It takes me step by step through the five years, the things I want to accomplish each year, and the things I need to do to accomplish them.  I am right on schedule…but…I wouldn’t be if I took detours every time someone suggested something new.

If I had not experienced some victories, and if I had failed miserably in achieving goals to this point, I would certainly consider new things.

But I’m right on schedule with my plan.

What’s the point?

I think you can figure that out.

I am the only one who can determine my business plan, and I’m the only one who can activate it and decide whether it needs changing.  I don’t see any point in messing with success right now.  Although all the suggestions I have received have been wonderful….

They are not in my plan.

Do you have a plan?

TIP OF THE DAY

You guessed it.  If you have goals then you need a plan.  I don’t know how to say that in a clearer way. Naturally, if you simply write for the pure joy of writing, then a plan is not necessary.  But if you have goals in mind, then I strongly suggest you sit down and hammer out a game plan.

WRITER OF THE DAY

I’m all about supporting writers, and I love to highlight new writers I discover, so here is one I think you will enjoy.  Her name is Brie Hoffman and you can find her here.

CONTEST OF THE DAY

Big Pond Rumours has a poetry and prose contest and they are currently accepting submissions. The entry fee is only $7 and I believe the deadline is the end of November. Find it here.

PROMPT OF THE DAY

November 2012 around Olympia 012

The picture speaks of fall.  The prompt is this:  Remember a lovely walk you took on a fall afternoon.  What do you see, feel, hear, smell, and taste?

MORE ANOTHER TIME

I don’t have a clue when the next blog entry will appear. I hope I have it figured out soon because I love uniformity in my life, and I think it helps my followers to expect things on certain days.  So stay tuned and we’ll find out together.

Have a wonderful day of writing.  Remember that what you do is special, so treat it like a precious gift.

Bill, I am trying to figure out a schedule now for the fall, too with the girls going back to school, but still haven’t got it completely worked out either. So, looks like we both have our work cut out for us. Wishing you a wonderful Wednesday once again!! 🙂

We do indeed, Janine, but at least we are our own bosses, so we can’t fire us. LOL Thanks for taking the time to support my efforts.

Bill, it seem changing up your schedule has interrupted your automatic pilot configuration. 🙂
Tell me: do you offer helping writers with their plan as part of your paid coaching? If so, is it available a la carte?

    • Billybuc September 3, 2014 at 3:33 pm #

Sha, I help friends as part of my friendship and not paid coaching. 🙂

I’ll send you an email in the next day or two. And I don’t expect free help. You’ve already helped enough.

      • Billybuc September 3, 2014 at 8:08 pm #

And yet, Sha, free help is what you’ll receive. 🙂 Don’t argue, please. It’s unbecoming. 🙂

You mean I can’t be successful without a plan? I am not very good at that part–and my life is one big distraction–sigh!

    • Billybuc September 3, 2014 at 7:18 pm #

Audrey, in my humble opinion, you are already successful.

    Hello my friend Bill Holland.
Are you kidding me? Not religious, nor Biblical ?!- what other place dare to publicly use word ‘ temptation’ but the Lord’s Prayer. (Just kidding.)
You know me by now, that I am trying to fight back whenever you hit me severely ; (my goals are in my head, my plans all around scattered.) After this monstrous project I’ll use my 22 once hammer to ” nail ” my plan, quite a…
Seriously: This one your saying ‘it’s not in my plan ‘ is actually something you are doing for months now : teaching, leading, helping, urging etc. Aren’t those asking for book spoiled already? (except me, naturally (ha ) ).
BTW Is that reply to Shauna actually yours?

Final word : Today is my day “off ” and my body got a bit rested after two coffees – and I ask you for forgiveness for my reckless comment. Thank you.

    Peace with us.

    • Billybuc September 3, 2014 at 8:07 pm #

Nothing reckless at all, Michael my friend. I always appreciate your thoughts. Be careful using that hammer. Serious damage can occur. As for Sha’s comment, I’ll have to go back and take a look. 🙂 Peace be with us for sure my friend.

Strangely…for the first time in my life – i DO have an actual plan. At long last, i’m doing something i was always meant to do – and have the time to do it..
Hugs to you Bill. You’re doing grrrrrreat!

    • Billybuc September 3, 2014 at 11:20 pm #

And Sis, it shows in your output. Well done young lady, and hugs coming your way.

Bill, you are a true testament to motivation, patience and perseverance! 🙂 I remember when I started writing how hard it was with all those distractions. No wonder I was so confused! Now I know the direction I want to go, but there is still SO much I want to do and think I should be doing. Hope you’re having a great Friday over there and enjoy the weekend! I’m getting a decent pair of running shoes tomorrow (that hopefully won’t cost the earth), so looking forward to getting into that again. Have a good one!

    • Billybuc September 5, 2014 at 2:00 pm #

Well Happy Spring to you, Mel, and I hope you enjoy those new shoes. Here the mornings are now crisp, and it is a good time to be alive in our part of the country. As for perseverance, I know what I want and I know how to attain it. The rest is up to me. 🙂 Thank you Mel.

Distractions are always a temptation for me. Stanley’s quote reminds me how weak I can be on my faith some days. Like writing, you have to build your strength to stand when the temptations hit. I love your fall photo prompt. Living in South Florida makes you want to visit up north every fall. The crisp cool air is so invigorating.

    • Billybuc September 6, 2014 at 3:36 pm #

Dianna, I know south Florida must have its allure, but I couldn’t live there. I need the seasons. 🙂 Thanks for all the visits this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday.
