Rediscover the Joy in Writing

11 Sep

003Look at me, coming up with another posting this week.  I call that progress my friends.

I would be remiss if I didn’t thank all of you who voted for me on the HubPages Hubbie Awards. Thank you so much.  Your support means everything to me.

And now let’s start this off with a quote and then get down to the nitty gritty.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness.

Charles Spurgeon
I don’t have a clue who Charles Spurgeon is, but I love his attitude.

THOUGHT OF THE DAY

I received an email from a writer friend yesterday.  Her name isn’t important, but what she had to say was.  She was stressing over not being able to find information she needed for her novel.  She was concerned that she would not be accurate in her facts, and the stress this caused was actually causing her physical pain from a previous ailment.

Stop right there!

The stress from writing was causing her physical pain.

Take a deep breath.

I’ll tell you what I told her:  writing is supposed to be enjoyable.  I’m assuming that most of us do this because we love it.  If that assumption is correct, then the next assumption is correct as well:  our lover should never cause us pain.

Enjoy what you are doing.  There is a very small percentage of humanity that can do what you do, so sit back and give yourself a pat on the back for a job well-done.  A certain amount of stress is normal.  Maybe we have a deadline to meet, or whatever….but if we lose sight of the passion and enjoyment that writing once gave us, then writing will become a task and not an enjoyable ride of whimsy.

TIP OF THE DAY

Allow yourself to be human.  There will be pitfalls in writing.  There will be days when you don’t accomplish what you think you should.  Oh well!  Never lose sight of the fact that writing is, or should be, a joy.

I’LL LEAVE YOU WITH THAT

That’s enough for you to chew on today.  I want you to enjoy the journey.  You have a gift.  Be happy that you do.
