The Importance of the Arts

27 Oct

003Happy last week of October to you all!

I’ve severely limited the number of blog postings for a variety of reasons. One, I know you are busy, and even though I know you are fiercely loyal to me, I just don’t feel like burdening you with too many posts.

Secondly, we are all busy writing and living our lives.  There are only so many hours in the day and one more blog post just might be one too many.

Thirdly, I’m busy and just don’t have the time I once did to keep pouring out blogs plus articles plus novels. Something had to give and that something was the blog postings.

But I’m here now so let’s get to it!

QUOTE OF THE DAY

Too many people in the modern world view poetry as a luxury, not a necessity like petrol. But to me it’s the oil of life.

John Betjeman
The only reason I have for choosing that quote is because I love it.  What other reason do I need?  Poetry, and writing in general…and painting, and sculpture…I believe these things to be crucial for the advancement of our society.  I can’t imagine a society without the Arts.

THOUGHT OF THE DAY

You are all important parts of the Art movement in this world.  Be proud of that, and perform with the excellence that comes from that pride.  You are making this world a better place and that, my friends, is so very cool!

ODDS AND ENDS

Changes…there is no denying them.  I recently took on some part-time work to help my wife and to make a few extra bucks.  Two mornings each week…no big deal…but now it looks like I’ll add a route, so I’ll be working three full days each week and writing two per week.  Big change…big deal.  It will require me to adjust and I hate adjusting.  LOL  But I’ll do it and end up loving it, so there you go.

Last week I went with Bev to a doctor’s appointment she had. While I was in the waiting room a friend of mine walked in…..she came over and introduced herself to Bev and then she introduced us to her mother, an eighty-something woman.  My friend told me that every morning she reads my newest article to her mother and they then sit and talk about it, and her mother then thanked me for all the happiness my words have given to her.

That’s why I’m a writer!

Have a great week!

And for those of you who have asked, my latest novel, Shadows Kill, is doing quite well.  If you are interested you can find it on Amazon….and check out this YouTube shorty I recently did about the novel.

Have a great week, too and just so happy to see you are around these parts once again!!! 😉

Thanks Janine. You do the same and give those girls a big hug.

That is a great quote Billy and I do agree with it’s sentiments.
Strange how life sometimes leads us in different directions, often to quite unexpected places. I do hope your venture back into the outside world will be an enjoyable one for you. Writing can be a very lonely pastime so perhaps it will do you good to be back in the swing of things, I hope so.

Thank you Sally! I’m looking forward to the change of pace. I’ve always enjoyed working out in public so I think I’ll adjust fairly quickly.

    Hi Billy Buc!
I finally ordered Shadows Kill from Amazon today! Can’t wait to see it in book form! LOVE the cover, which I have mentioned before…I am very behind as I had foot surgery this past week, and the anesthesia and narcotic pill did a number on me. I have told the hospital a million times I cannot tolerate narcotics! VERY ill, nausea, vomiting, and then the antibiotic caused horrendous diarrhea, so I have been very weak and not up to snuff.
The good news is I saw the surgeon today and I am healing well…just still weak and some nausea.
All this being said, I continue to enjoy your Face Book entries AND the bunny pictures and all else!
Good luck with the job and I certainly can see how busy people are…noting the lack of hub notifications.
Times change, things change, people change…but this is good. SO thrilled for Bev! I still would like to see your final draft on your current novel.
Thank you for the blog and for keeping in touch and the great quotes! LOVE all that you contribute. God bless, Lea T. 🙂

Lea, bless you, and I hope that recovery period becomes a little less of a struggle for you. I’m just starting the final draft of the new novel, and you’ll be the first to get it when it’s done. Thank you so much for ordering Shadows Kill…the next one is my gift to you for all that you do for me.

      blessings always

Bill! I have missed your blog posts my friend. How exciting – a whole overhaul of your routine… just when you think things are going to stay as they are, something happens to shake things up a bit! I am leaving my position and may be going back to freelancing for a bit if I don’t find the right next full-time gig, but I’m not worried. Things happen as they must, change is good! It makes us grow 🙂 Such a great compliment from your friend’s mom and great video on your new book – one day, one day I will be as cool, calm and confident doing one of those again as what you are! So glad to hear your book is doing well too, you deserve it all. Have a great week!

Mel, so good to hear from you. I was just on your Facebook site looking for a new blog post but couldn’t find one. Best wishes on your next career move. I simply love your attitude about life.

That is so sweet. How wonderful it must have felt to know you made a difference in someone’s life. Yes, that is what being a writer is all about. If you can make a living at it, well that’s just icing on the cake. Have a great day, Bill.

Hey Bill, congrats on the publishing of Shadow Kills! I see you are in kindle unlimited? You’ll have to let us know how that works out for you. I don’t have a membership, but this makes me consider it….Anyway, can’t wait to read it! Oh, I just realized you probably won’t know who this is (this is my pen name), but I’m a faithful mailbag reader from MN. Happy Wednesday!

    • Billybuc October 28, 2015 at 2:18 pm #

Melissa, what a nice surprise…thanks for stopping by. I don’t know about all this Kindle stuff…I just try things and wait for the results. Kind of like throwing darts. 🙂 You have to tell me if you have a blog or something. I need to follow you….I’ll just email you and find out. 🙂

Bill, you must have swelled with pride upon hearing your friend’s mother’s comment about your work. That’s what it’s all about! I just read a comment on my review of the Serta topper I wrote a couple of years back. Apparently, a car accident victim read it and bought the topper. He came back yesterday and left a comment that the topper has really relieved his pain – and it all started with my review. That made my day. What’s even better is the guy is not a hubber. Too cool!

I’m off to check out your video and buy Shadows Kill. I’ve got your first two novels in my library and will continue to add to my Bill Holland collection.

Have a wonderful weekend. Good luck on the job. It is an adjustment, but you’ll make it. We all do what we gotta do, right?

    • Billybuc October 31, 2015 at 3:06 pm #

Thanks for sharing that about the topper, Sha. That is really cool. And thank you for buying the book…yes, we do what we gotta do…this is more to help out Bev, but it’s kind of nice getting out in public working again.
